Cyber Security Challenge 2017 @ Charles Darwin University

The Cyber Security Challenge Australia is coordinated by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.  This year’s challenge has been aligned with some of the initiatives in the Cyber Security Strategy released in 2016 by the Australian Government.

Challenge is open to full time Australian university undergraduate and undergraduate equivalent TAFE students based in Australia. In Northern Territory, Charles Darwin University (CDU) have put out forward 4 teams for this challenge, all 16 participants will compete with rest of the national participants.

“The Aim of the challenge is to test both their technical and communication skills to give them a sense of what it’s like to work as a Cyber Security Professional”. – Cyber Security Challenge, Australia
Great Prizes are up for grab for those who excel the challenge, Major Prize: Flights, accommodation and entry to DEFCON 2017 (one of the world’s largest cyber ‘white hat’ hacking conventions held every year in Las Vagas) for the winning team, courtesy of Hacklabs. Others include:
•    Flights, accommodation and entry to Ruxcon Melbourne 2017 for the first year team that places the highest - (courtesy of PwC)
•    Surface Book Core i7 256GB devices, category TBA - (courtesy of Microsoft)
•    Cisco Live tickets for the winning team - (courtesy of Cisco)

AISA Darwin branch has extended its support, by assisting with the below:

Prior to the challenge (12/4/2017-03/05/2017):
•    Providing presentations on technical aspect of the challenge – knowledge share on how to use the tool.
•    Presentation on communication/ team building - lessons learned and strategies to employ on the day of the challenge.
On the day of the challenge:  
•    Volunteering over 24 hours (10th and 11th of May)
