Bumper half-day turnout shows Adelaide strength

A RECORD 137 people attended the Adelaide Half Day Security Conference this month, reflecting the strength of the agenda and the vibrancy of the South Australian capital’s AISA branch.

Adelaide deputy chair Emily Wingard said AISA enjoyed a strong reputation in the city for staging quality events.

“We’re seen to provide good content and venues,” Ms Wingard said.

The event was staged on June 7 at the UniSA Cancer Research Institute.

Presenting were:

  • Fernando Serto, head of security technology and strategy for APJ at Akamai, on the state of the internet.
  • Norman Yue, offensive cyber security researcher, on malicious office hardware.
  • Nicole Stephensen, Ground Up Consulting, on beyond the C-I-A triad: Applying a privacy perspective to traditional security controls.
  • Ben Waters, co-founder and COO at Cydarm Technologies, on cyber metrics and selling the dream.

Also giving a short presentation was Dr Gaye Deegan, program director at UniSA, who spoke on UniSA and cybersecurity.

Ms Wingard said feedback on the day praised the running of the event and the venue.

“They thought question time was good and said it was great to see so many Adelaide security professionals gathered together.”

The food was a crowd pleaser, she said.

Adelaide branch chair Nathan Morelli gave the opening address and delivered some final remarks.

AISA chairman Damien Manuel, who travelled from Melbourne, gave the closing address.

Also travelling from Melbourne were AISA’s events and sponsorship manager, Susanna Palermo, and the marketing and operations manager, Megan Spielvogel.

Attending from the Adelaide branch were Mr Morelli, Ms Wingard, and committee members Ben Cornish and Phil Pudney, who were all organisers of the conference with committee member James Morphett and UniSA senior events and recruitment officer Lindsey Pollock.

Mr Morelli said: “A special mention to UniSA for putting a lot of effort into assisting us plan and run the event, providing us a staff member for the whole day to make sure everything went smoothly.

“Also our caterer, Classic Caterers, and their staff member who delivered an excellent range of food and supported us throughout the whole day.

“We look forward to the next one being bigger and better and collaborating with other groups across Adelaide security community.”
