The AISA Brisbane end of year event for 2019
AISA Brisbane branch is pleased to have a variety of speakers, all from the infosec industry, provide brief updates of their non ‘cyber’ interests and hobbies for our end of year event. This branch meeting will go for an extended time, feature some festive food and feature short presentations that celebrate the diversity in our industry. Speakers include Mark Carey-Smith, James Culverhouse, David Lord and Bek Cheb.
Topic 1: Benefits of communal drumming
A couple of years ago, Mark finally gave in to the nagging of a close friend and grudgingly participated in a drum circle. What followed was a moment of clarity and Mark’s been drumming ever since. In this talk, Mark will briefly describe the benefits of communal drumming and explore with the audience why some people love it and some people hate it.
Speaker: Mark Carey-Smith
Mark has performed various information security roles over the past 20 years and is currently focusing on governance, risk and compliance. He’s a strong believer in the importance of culture and awareness and how behavioural science can help us better understand why we do what we do. Mark is a proud but lazy executive committee member of the Brisbane AISA branch who doesn’t do enough for it.
Topic 2: Everyone has a story to tell. There are always truths within fiction.
Speaker: James Culverhouse
James has been a pizzaiolo, business owner, projectionist and teacher. He currently works as an IT professional in the higher education sector. James has dived with sharks off the Queensland Coast, survived being a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, and lived in a mud brick house in Tasmania. James and his wife share their home in Moreton Shire, Australia, with their black cat, Shadow, and their loveable dog, Chad. He has published his first book, “Wolf and the Crow”, the first book in the Ebonsheare Chronicles trilogy.

Bek Cheb who will be encouraging people to submit conference presentations and David Lord who will be talking about some non cyber interests!
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers at the end of the presentation.
A Festive Lunch of cold meats, salads and fruit mince pies including beverages will be served before the presentations.
