Scott Handsaker is the CEO of CyRise, Asia-Pacific’s venture accelerator for early-stage cyber security startups. CyRise is a partnership between Dimension Data and Deakin University, and it was established in 2017 to support the growth of the Australian cyber security startup ecosystem. Scott is currently seeking great founders for his second cohort.
Session One: So you have a great infosec idea which solves a problem for your team, your company or your country. What next?
Building a startup takes rigour, speed and laser focus - and the courage to back yourself. In this session, Scott will take you through the entrepreneur skillset to help you on your way. An founder for 12 years with three startups, he will cover the phases of the startup lifecycle - from the ideation to validation and building your MVP; the challenges of finding co-founder(s) and building a team ; finding product-market fit and winning clients ; the importance of collaboration and community ; and what it’s like to seek investment and scale globally
Speaker: Peter Sandilands is a 40 year veteran of the IT industry
Peter Sandilands is a 40 year veteran of the IT industry. He has held technical, support, marketing and management roles across a broad spectrum of industry. They varied from senior security management roles at a bank to leading the introduction of Check Point Software into Australia. For the past 20 years Peter has focused on security and its business implications. He holds CISSP, CISM and MSc.

There is a steady and growing flow of articles decrying the cybersecurity skills shortage in Australia. Let's examine what the shortage calls out. Let's also examine the skills landscape within cybersecurity. By comparing these we can better grasp what is really happening. With a real insight into the problem, real or otherwise, we can map out a path to follow.
