Presentation 1: Leading the world from right here at home
Australia absolutely has leading-edge cyber security products and services. Cultivating and scaling this entails identifying strategic opportunities to grow NSW competitive advantage in cyber through growing sovereign capability. A key component of this is looking to best practice at leading global innovation hubs in NYC (SOSA  Global Cyber Centre), Toronto (MaRS Discovery District ), and Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Cyber Security Cluster) to glean how we can bolster our own innovation ecosystem here at home and continue to harness entrepreneurial talent.

Speaker: Dr Stephenie Andal, NSW Cyber Security Network and AustCyber
Stephenie is Senior Business Development Manager for NSW Cyber Security Network, as well as the NSW Cyber Security Innovation Node Manager for AustCyber (the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network Ltd). NSW Cyber Security Network is a Government initiative funded by the NSW State Government and eight NSW universities whose aim is to build future-focused cyber security capabilities and position NSW as a leader in cyber security.

Prior to joining NSW Cyber Security Network, Stephenie worked on AustCyber’s national innovation and capability programs, driving the commercial growth of the Australian cyber security sector. Before taking up that role, Stephenie was a doctoral researcher in the Department of Government and International Relations at The University of Sydney, where her PhD research focused on Chinese cyber security policies, foreign policy and digital politics in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Stephenie holds a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Presentation 2: Why security needs to be enabling technology

This presentation will cover why organisations need to embrace enabling technologies not just focus on a defensive posture. The wave of local and international regulations that organisations now face mean protecting and sharing data has never been more important.

Speaker: Jacqui Nelson, Dekko Secure
Jacqui Nelson is Co-Founder and CEO of Dekko Secure.  Dekko is an Australian startup that focuses on helping government, law enforcement agencies and private organisations manage their communications securely.  Jacqui brings A strong global finance background and an intense focus on customer acquisition, retention and expansion.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers at the end of the presentation.

Light refreshments will be served after the presentation.
