ICS specialist explores defence-in-depth strategies

LONG-term AISA member Bruce Large was full of praise about his first presenting experience at the Brisbane branch meeting last month.

“It’s a pretty cool crew,” Mr Large (pictured) told AISA after his June 26 session.

“If you’re worried about presenting, it’s actually a really supportive environment.

“I found it really cool - like talking to a bunch of mates.”

Mr Large is a cybersecurity specialist in operational technology and industrial control systems.

He recently joined Stanwell, Queensland’s largest electricity generator, after 20 months with PwC.

He presented on “Blue Teaming your ICS” and highlighted the ICS-CERT resources from the US Department of Homeland Security, in particular their Recommended Practice: Improving Industrial Control System Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies.

Also valuable were essential control system mitigation strategies from the Australian Cyber Security Centre, he advised attendees.

Mr Large said he attended his first AISA Brisbane event in 2006.

“I think it’s awesome.

“It’s a great way to see current topics and to network with Blue Teamers.

“AISA is really important for connecting cyber defenders … It’s always worthwhile making the time.”
