December 2016 - Branch Meeting Wrap

The last AISA Brisbane Branch meeting for 2016 was held on 14 December 2016. In this special meeting AISA members were invited to bring a guest with them. The meeting included a presentation by Dr Jodie Siganto followed by a catered social event featuring some light refreshments.
As part of the Brisbane branch’s member inclusiveness, the meeting commenced with a welcome from AISA Brisbane branch member Mark Carey-Smith who thanked the traditional custodians of the land and welcome all attendees. As a contribution to the AISA Brisbane branch diversity initiative Mark explained why he thought this was an important aspect of diversity an embracing all cultures and creeds in a supportive and inclusive society of professionals.  The Diversity Initiative aims to support an inclusive community for all and to mentor, encourage and promote diversity in the information security industry. This initiative is driven by Mandy Turner and supported by the AISA Brisbane Diversity Champion Linda Shave.

The presentation on the day was by Dr Jodie Siganto who discussed skills shortage issues in regards to information security and what can be done about this issue. This led to lively discussion with members and was well received.

The meeting ended with a social event where people had extra time to chat and network.

The AISA Brisbane branch thanks its local members for their support during the year and look forward to 2017 and BrisSEC17. https://www.aisa.org.au/BrisSEC17
