‘Lessons learned from #CensusFail – Securing the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey’

Craig Lindenmayer joined the ABS IT Security team just prior to the ill-fated Population Census in 2016. This was a major learning experience for both Craig and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Exactly 12 months after the disastrous Census night the ABS was tasked with delivering the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey in just 100 days. There was no time to waste and no appetite for security mistakes this time. Craig covers how the lessons learned from the painful experience of Census 2016 were applied to the highly successful Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey in 2017.

Speaker: Craig Lindenmayer, is the Director of IT Security and IT Security Advisor for the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The ABS is Australia’s national statistical agency, providing trusted official statistics on a wide range of economic, social, population and environmental matters of importance to Australia. Craig has worked in a number of technology and security roles across the ABS. Craig loves technology and security almost as much as he loves mountain bikes (and his wife and kids).
