AISA ACT Branch Meeting | 23 May 2024

AISA Branch Meeting
Hosted by the AISA ACT Branch, please join us for a face-to-face meeting and networking opportunity with a live and interactive presentation and discussion on Critical Infrastructure with guest speaker Frank den Hartog who is the Professor of Critical Infrastructure at the University of Canberra.

Presentation Title:
Cyber security of our critical infrastructure: research at Innovation Central Canberra

Over the past 30 years, our critical infrastructure has increasingly become privatised, softwarised, interconnected and interdependent. A major impact of this trend is an increased attack surface, with multiple examples of attacks and outages all over the world. However software is not just the problem but also the solution, and this is the core of Frank den Hartog's research at the University of Canberra.

In this talk Frank will explain that it is availability that defines infrastructure as critical, but also that availability is still the least researched concept in the well-known CIA triad of cyber security. Frank will provide an overview of the open research program they are starting with the Innovation Central Canberra, which includes investigating the role of zero-trust architectures, cloud-access security brokers, standardisation and regulation (e.g. the SOCI Act),  private 5G/6G, physical-layer security, and software-defined programmable networks.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers and refreshments and drinks will be served after the presentation.

Speakers:

Between 2003 and 2016 he was a Senior Innovator at the Dutch Organisation for Applied Research TNO.

From 2012-2016 he was Chair of the Technical Working Group of the worldwide Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) telecommunications industry standardisation body.
