AISA NSW Branch Event | 30 May 2024

AISA Branch Meeting
Hosted by the AISA NSW Branch, please join us for a face-to-face meeting and networking opportunity featuring interactive presentations from our guest speakers Dr Bingi Zhang, Director at PwC's Cloud and Digital Consulting and Grant Thornton.

Presentation 1: Demystifying APRA CPS230: Alignment between your cloud technology and risk functions
Australian financial services institutions are preparing for CPS230, APRA’s new regulation for Operational Resilience. When you ask people from different roles in the organisation, they have distinctive views about what to do to meet the requirements. It gets more confusing when it comes to the cloud. Alignment between risk functions and engineering teams is of utmost importance to get the work done. This presentation will share some examples in my recent work regarding what your (cloud) technology and risk teams should collaborate on to comply with CPS230 and why.

Speaker:

Dr. Binqi Zhang has over twenty years’ experience in the ICT industry and is now a Director at PwC’s Cloud & Digital Consulting. With extensive experience in public cloud architecture, delivery, and governance, Binqi has helped some of Australia’s largest organisations in regulated industries modernise their culture, process, and technology to realise the value of their cloud adoption in a secure way. He’s been certified on all major cloud platforms including AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform at professional & security specialty levels. He is also a CCSP. Some of his recent work includes DevSecOps, operational resilience, and data protection.

Presentation 2: Financial crime and cyber
Most, if not all, financial crimes are cybercrimes. The ease and accessibility of technology means traditional frauds and scams are faster, slicker, and more global than ever. Coupled with emerging readily available generative AI tools, the impact on financial crime may be profound. Cybersecurity specialists have a critical role to play in reducing the frequency and financial loss to businesses and individuals. In this session, we will explore a number of fraud and scam typologies and how cybersecurity specialists can help manage these risks.

Speakers:
Katherine Shami, Risk Consulting Partner, Grant Thornton
Katherine works closely with C-suite and Boards, advising them on matters relating to financial crime, compliance and good governance, to ensure they have relevant frameworks in place and commensurate to the level of risk they are exposed to. In addition to leading a wide range of AML/CTF projects, Katherine has led numerous forensic engagements including investigations into allegations of fraud and corruption, and reviews into supplier ethical behaviours and sourcing.
