IRONPYRITE: Using deception and subterfuge for whole-of-nation cyber defense.

IRONPYRITE is the code name of a joint cyber capability designed to degrade cyber actors working against Australia's interest.  The idea is remarkably simple; purposefully execute sophisticated cyber actor's malware inside honey-nets designed to simulate the intended victim's network. Intelligence collected from IRONPYRITE will be shared among academia, ACSC and participating high-value target environments to help improve national cyber defense.  As an industry-led, commercial service, it will be interesting to see if initiatives like IRONPYRITE can scale quickly and be commercially successful to help counter cyber threats as an integral part of Australia's cyber defense ecosystem.
