Overview:
Cybercrime – Everybody’s talking about it but what can we do?
Cyber security has been moving up the political agenda as governments recognise that their nations’ IT Infrastructures are now one of their most critical assets. Recent initiatives announced by Barack Obama and Gordon Brown reflect a growing international commitment to address growing cyber threats to economic prosperity, public safety and national security that all rely on a robust and secure digital infrastructure.
Cybercrime has many targets – critical infrastructure, financial transactions, individuals’ identities, and also the least powerful in the community-children. The Australian Information Security Association’s Event will examine Cyber security in the Australian context.
Professor Howard Schmidt will deliver the keynote address. Named as one of the fifty most influential people in Information Technology by Baseline Magazine, Professor Schmidt will draw upon his experience as CISO at Microsoft, EBAY and as a special adviser to the White House.
Prof Schmidt will look behind recent announcements by world leaders and their implications for Australia, in particular. He will explore how governments, businesses and ordinary citizens can work together to mitigate cyber security threats and ask if the information security industry can do more to help.
AISA has invited Senior Managers from the National CERT, the Australian Federal Police, Visa International, Telstra, Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank to a Panel Discussion around the Topic: Working Together to Address Cybercrime in the Australian Context.
