Topic: Under the hood - State of Spam & Phishing

In March of 2011 overall spam made up 74.68% of all messages according to Symantec. Spammers continue to fine tune their methods and continue to take advantage of global events such as the earthquake in Japan to send spam, scam, malware and phishing attacks.

In this AISA Branch meeting Troy Braban - CISO at Tabcorp Holdings Limited - will share his experience on how Tabcorp tackles spam and phishing attacks and what this means for a business like Tabcorp.

Speaker: Troy Braban

Troy Braban is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Tabcorp Holdings Limited. Tabcorp is Australia's premier gambling and entertainment group and manages leading customer brands including the Star City and Jupiters casinos, TAB, Tabaret, Keno, Luxbet and TAB Sportsbet, serving millions of customers every day.

Troy was a founding member of the Australian IT Security Expert Advisory Group, a group set up under the Australian Government Attorney General's office to provide security advice and services on the protection of critical infrastructure. He has presented at a range of industry forums and conferences, held discussions with foreign ministry delegations and been quoted in multiple media articles.

After the Presentation: Panel Discussion

After Troy's presentation we will discuss the challenges organisations face in the form of a panel discussion. This will be the preamble for an AISA project for and by our members. The project's aim is to be spammed and scammed, learn from it and share the learning with everyone else. The final report of this project will be made available on the AISA National Conference in November.

Brief Description: AISA Project

As we will hear from Troy hardly a day goes by that we do not get either a spam or a scam email. Legislation has become stricter, email filters more advanced and users awareness is now better than it was in the past, but sadly we still spend far too much time looking at junk mails and we still hear far too many cases of people that got scammed... it all sums up to too much money being lost.

It is time to strike back!
