Topic: Cyber Espionage for Fun and
Profit: Understanding the Advanced Persistent
Threat
Conventional thinking among the IT security profession is to block
malicious network activity using a combination of defence in depth,
security policy and controls. A new breed of threats now exists
that can circumvent detection mechanisms, bypass controls and
persist on our networks. This threat, known as an Advanced
Persistent Threat (APT), is already in your network... somewhere.
This presentation will demonstrate why this threat is significant
and discuss what can be done to identify APT using the tools you
already have.
Presenter: Paul
Nevin
Paul Nevin is a principal cyber security consultant with Stratsec,
a BAE Systems company. He has over 12 years' experience
investigating computer network compromises on commercial,
Government and Defence networks around the world. Paul has just
completed a doctorate on cyber espionage intrusion detection and
has several patents pending for technologies to improve computer
network defence.
