Topic: Computer Forensics - in the ATO
In this presentation Stuart will cover the following;
- Computer forensics in the ATO,
- Experience from a work trip to the United States last year and
how we compare,
- What to provide a computer forensic expert to seek their
assistance,
- Case studies.
Speaker: Stuart Coulson
Stuart began his computer forensics and investigations
career:
- Within the Australian Customs Service investigating suspicious
activities and suspicious equipment entering the country,
- Then in the Forensic Computer Examination Unit of the QLD
Police Service where he helped establish an effective support base
for major criminal investigations assisting with State and Federal
investigations, and
- Now with the ATO, working alongside other investigative
agencies such as AFP, ASIO, AGS, ASIC, AGD, ACC and others
investigating suspicions of tax fraud and other criminal matters as
directed by partnering agencies.
Stuart is Senior Director of Forensics and Investigations, with
a team of 30 responsible for the provision of specialist Forensic
IT services.
Stuart has personally examined thousands of computers,
electronic devices and other digital media. He has provided expert
reports and presented expert testimony in computer forensics and
electronic evidence for numerous civil and criminal proceedings at
all levels of the judicial process. He has also presented computer
evidence in numerous criminal matters including fraud, drug supply
and production, child protection matters, copyright matters,
homicide investigations and cyber crimes to name a few.
As well as extensive industry experience Stuart is an industry
Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE).
