Topic: BotNets - Threat or Hype?
This presentation will provide insight into the impact and uses
of BotNets. The presentation will outline the sheer computing
power of BotNets and provide some examples of how they have
been used maliciously.
In the interest of user education and community awareness,
the presentation will conclude with a demonstration that
covers how a BotNet is used to steal data that can lead to
further crimes such as financial fraud and identity theft.
Speaker: Zane Jarvis, Senior Information
Security Analyst, AusCERT
Zane is a Senior Information Security Analyst with AusCERT. He
has been with AusCERT since July 2007. Zane has experience in
Windows System Administration and development of Applications
for Windows, for local government, private sector and defence.
Zane is currently involved in internal projects and rotates
back into the 'war zone' periodically.
